Very
Special Bear to Profit RWJ Children's Hospital
On October 21, 1998, a very special auction took place at the William
Doyle Galleries in New York.
"Teddy Gundred," a one-of-a-kind bear created by GUND in
celebration of the company's centennial, was auctioned for $100,000.
The proceeds were divided equally among four children's organizations,
including The Children's Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University
Hospital. Designed by Rita S. Raiffe, Gund's Director of Design and
wife of RWJ University Hospital Foundation Board Chairman, Herbert
H. Raiffe, the 34-inch bear was purchased by the President of the
Japan-based Sun Arrow Company, Ltd., itself a maker of stuffed animals
and toys. The bear will be on permanent display in one of the Company's
three stuffed toy museums in Japan.
We thank the Raiffe family and GUND Incorporated for honoring The
Children's Hospital is such a special way.
