JACKSON, N.J. – The RWJ University Hospital Foundation’s 25th Annual Invitational Golf Classic, which was held recently at the Metedeconk National Golf Club in Jackson, N.J., to benefit Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) raised a record $275,000.

Proceeds from this year’s Golf Classic will support the construction of a state-of-the-art pediatric surgical suite within The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital (BMSCH) at RWJUH. BMSCH is the focal point of the growing pediatric academic health campus in New Brunswick, which also features Robert Wood Johnson Medical School’s Child Health Institute of New Jersey, PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital providing pediatric rehabilitation care, Ronald McDonald House and the Embrace Kids Foundation.

BMSCH has been named one of the nation’s best children’s hospitals for two consecutive years, according to the 2013-14 U.S.News & World Report ranking of America’s Best Children’s Hospitals. It is one of only 87 children’s hospitals out of 179 surveyed nationally ranked in one or more specialties. BMSCH is ranked among the top children’s hospitals in Urology (#34) and Neonatology (#48).

Under the leadership of Bernard Rineberg, MD, a longtime orthopedic and Board of Directors member at RWJUH, the annual golf outing has raised more than $2.5 million during its 25-year history to support the hospital. In addition to Dr. Rineberg, Glenn Mekles’, Vice President of Conner Strong & Buckelew, leadership as Golf Committee Co-Chair contributed to the record proceeds.

“We deeply appreciate the leadership that Dr. Rineberg and Glenn Mekles demonstrated as co-chairs of this year’s golf committee,” says Stephen K. Jones, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Robert Wood Johnson Health System. “We owe a great deal of gratitude to Dr. Rineberg for his years of dedication to making the Golf Classic the premier event that it is today and based on the record proceeds generated by this year’s event, it is clear that Glenn will carry on this proud tradition. The funds raised by each Golf Classic give us the ability to expand essential services and programs to better serve our patients and our communities.”

RWJUH also extends its heartfelt appreciation to this year’s honorary co-chairs Richard Samenfeld of Wm. Blanchard Co. and Thomas Demcsak of Scholes Electric and Communications.

The Golf Classic was made possible through the generous support of our participants and Overall Sponsors: Barr and Barr, Conner Strong & Buckelew and TD Bank, as well as our Supporting Sponsors: Haddad Brands, Hewlett-Packard, High Concrete, IBM, NK Architects, QualCare, Quick Response Fire Protection, Revenue Guard, SHI, Stanley Healthcare and Stantec Consulting Services.

The RWJ University Hospital Foundation encourages everyone to save the date for our second outing – The Children’s Health 15th Annual Golf Outing to be held on August 5, 2013, at The Ridge at Back Brook in Ringoes, N.J. The outing benefits BMSCH and the Child Health Institute of New Jersey at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
